Departmental Reviewer: Kevin Stewart, kgstewar@email.unc.edu

Notes:

Students majoring or minoring in Geological Sciences commonly study abroad for a semester or to take a summer field course in a foreign country. If you are considering either a semester abroad or a summer field course, please contact the Study Abroad office early in your planning to make sure that the program has the appropriate approval. An international field course program must be officially approved by the Study Abroad Office in order for credit to be earned.

Departmental Reviewer: Aleksandra Prica, aprica@email.unc.edu

Notes:

  • For each UNC course transferred the student must show at least 10 pages of writing.
  • English-language courses or foreign language content courses below B2 may be counted as 200-level courses toward the major (in consultation with the DUS).
  • If students want credit toward the major for a foreign language course, then it must be at the B2 level or above.
  • Students are encouraged to take courses at their study abroad institution more broadly and not within a special “foreign language school” section at the institution. Ideally, the optimal study abroad experience will not be limited to courses designed for foreigners.
  • For the language courses of the FUBIS program to count the student must be in the Intermediate 2 course or the advanced course. Intermediate 1 is B1 level and can therefore not count toward the major.
  • Please visit the GSLL website in the link below for more study abroad information.

Health Policy and Management

Departmental Reviewer: Melanie Studer, melanie_studer@unc.edu

Notes:

Health Policy and Management and Public Health: Dr. Studer reviews requests for credit for both HPM and SPHG courses.

It is not possible for students majoring in HPM to study abroad during their junior or senior year due to the sequenced curriculum and required internship during the summer between the junior and senior year. Students who hope to major in HPM and who would like to study abroad, are encouraged to do so before starting the HPM major in their junior fall.

Notes:

Students may receive credit for up to three courses toward the major from any one UNC-approved semester abroad program. Courses taken abroad can only be used in the theme/area concentration portion of the major, not for the core. These restrictions do not apply to programs led directly by UNC faculty. For additional information and limitations please consult the study abroad section of GLBL’s website.
