Message to Summer 2020 Students

We can imagine how disappointed you may be feeling about the cancellation of your Summer 2020 study abroad program. You have probably been planning to study abroad program for a long time. The Study Abroad Office is here to support you with next steps.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion style=”flat” shape=”square” color=”sky” spacing=”2″ active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”Is the Summer 2020 cancellation permanent? What if the CDC changes their travel advisory later, and it’s safe to go abroad?” tab_id=”1585088143320-2ae6b9d1-1604″][vc_column_text]Yes, this is a final decision. Even if the CDC warning is reversed, there are no plans to reinstate Summer 2020 programs. Due to the amount of logistical planning required to execute our programs, we cannot reinstate Summer programs at a later date. [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can I switch from Summer 2020 to Fall 2020, Spring 2021, or Summer 2021?” tab_id=”1585088143351-ada1776c-3c29″][vc_column_text]Yes! The Study Abroad Office can transfer your application so that you will be considered for programs in future terms, provided the program is still accepting applications and there is currently space available. Contact your study abroad advisor for assistance. [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Can my Summer 2020 study abroad application fee be refunded?” tab_id=”1585158885451-5db10ad9-f409″][vc_column_text]The $50 application fee is non-refundable. If you change your study abroad enrollment to a future semester or summer, you will not be charged a second application fee. This fee supports the expense of maintaining an online application system and the process of application reviewApplicants for study abroad in Summer 2020 will not be charged the study abroad administrative fee ($925). [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”I saw the email cancelling Summer 2020 programs, but my program isn’t operated through UNC. My third-party program provider hasn’t cancelled anything yet. If you enroll in a study abroad program this summer, the Study Abroad Office cannot provide host institution approval, and the office cannot assist you with credit transfer to UNC. [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”My Summer 2020 study abroad program is cancelled but I needed the courses I was planning to take. Feel free to reach out to fa_studyabroad@unc.edu for more information.

You will not be able to apply your summer study abroad scholarship(s) toward programs beginning in Spring 2021 or after. You can certainly reapply for Study Abroad Office Scholarships through the Common Scholarship Application for future study abroad programs.
