About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Business Administration and French Minor
Program: IES Abroad Paris Summer Internship Program
Location: Paris, France
Email: tsmith3@unc.edu
Term: Summer 2023

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose to study abroad because I wanted to learn intercultural communication in an international workplace. Studying abroad broadened my horizons to how a business runs differently in other parts of the world. I selected my program by narrowing down the location that I wanted and then choosing an internship over just classes because I wanted to gain working experience abroad as well as cultural adaptations.

What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I am no longer afraid to face my fears. Moving and interning abroad taught me that I am much more capable of traversing new problems and ways of life than I thought I was. I have a newfound confidence.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
One of my favorite memories is when all of the interns in my program took a river cruise down the Seine on our first night in Paris.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Don’t be afraid to take a chance. The best way to grow is to get out of your comfort zone. Once you get out of it, you will never want to go back!

How do you identify?
