Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose to study abroad because it was part of my path to Carolina. I didn't know much about Global Launch until I was accepted into the program. Once we met with the program directors and learned more about what the experience would look like, I started to get excited. It hit me that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't pass up. It was an unconventional start to college, but one that I will forever be grateful for!
What did you learn about yourself?
My experience with Global Launch taught me so much about myself and the world. I traveled to 8 different European countries and 20+ different cities, lived with a host family that spoke no English, and gained a deeper appreciation for the people and culture around me. My experience abroad gave me independence, confidence, and a love for travel that will stay with me for a lifetime.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
There are so many, but one of my favorite memories was turning 19 at the top of the Eiffel Tower. My friends surprised me with tickets the night of my birthday, and it is still such a happy memory.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
I totally understand that abroad might seem scary, but rewarding experiences often happen outside your comfort zone. Don't overthink it and focus on how exciting the opportunity is. And soak it in while you're over there because it goes by so fast!
