About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Psychology/ Bio & Chem minors
Program: Psychology at King's College London
Location: London, England
Email: sbaker7@live.unc.edu
Term: Summer 2019

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose to study abroad because I wanted the experience of learning in another country and the ability to explore a new place while I was there. I selected my program based on major requirements in order to gain important credit while I was there.

What did you learn about yourself?
I learned I am capable of being independent and can adapt well to cultures that are different from my own.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
My favorite memories from my program would probably be just hanging out with my friends and playing cards at a local pub in London because it was a nice way to end the day. Another favorite memory of mine would be making Magnum bars at the pop up shop in central London.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Studying abroad is the best experience I have had so far at UNC. I was able to meet people in a unique way that allowed us to become close friends in a short span of time. I advise to take risks and if you want to do something while abroad, go ahead and do it because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity

Would you do it again?
Yes!

How were your classes abroad different than if you would have taken them at UNC?
My classes were smaller and I felt as though I was close with more of my classmates because we were all in a similar situation of a foreign country. I was also able to become close to a professor which is hard to do in a normal semester at UNC because class size is so much larger.

How do you identify?
Student Athlete

Is there any advice you would give to other students who share your identity?
Because it is hard for student athletes to study abroad, I highly recommend taking the chance to go during the summer so you don't miss too much time and are able to gain a once in a lifetime experience.
