Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose to study abroad because I have always wanted the experience of living outside of the United States and college seemed like the perfect time to do this. I chose Sevilla, because I wanted the support of a UNC program where I could learn Spanish. I was also very excited about the homestay aspect of this program.

What did you learn about yourself?
While abroad I learned I am capable of accepting any challenge. Nothing feels better than learning how to communicate in another language. Even the smallest accomplishments become exciting!

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
Some of my favorite memories from the program is when I would explore Sevilla with my friends. Even though traveling in Europe is easy and affordable looking back my favorite memories were at “home” in Sevilla. My favorite place was the Plaza de España, which was always beautiful and filled with excitement.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
My advice to future students is DO IT! I was afraid I would regret missing a semester at UNC, but I don’t in the slightest. There are SO many programs, so there will be something for you. Start looking early and find it.

Would you do it again?
Yes, I would leave again tomorrow if given the chance!

How were your classes abroad different than if you would have taken them at UNC?
I loved classes abroad because there were very small. This allowed professor-student interaction as well as cultural field trips based on the curriculum. This interaction was crucial to my language development and really helped establish relationships within the program.
