About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Economics & Public Policy
Program: Burch Seminar in Berlin: Intelligence
Location: Berlin, Germany
Email: lanib@ad.unc.edu
Term: Summer 2024

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
My decision to study abroad over the summer was influenced by a scholarship I received that covered only summer study abroad opportunities. I thought that the best summer to utilize it would be my first because, in the future, I hope to use my summers for internships and career development. Picking my program was easy after narrowing down the time frame since I have always been interested in government intelligence!

What did you learn about yourself?
While I was already interested in studying abroad for a semester during my time at UNC, this month-long summer program reaffirmed my desire to do so! I also learned how much I value American AC.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
One of my favorite memories from the program was exploring Berlin by flea market hopping! There are tons of flea markets throughout the city every Sunday and I really enjoyed how many places I got to explore and people I got to meet just by visiting flea markets.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Not every moment of your time abroad is going to be some sort of picture-perfect Instagramable moment. Things don't always go to plan and you will be so much happier if you don't expect everything to!
