Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I knew that I wanted to experience education outside of the United States and felt that studying abroad was the best option possible. When selecting my program I really liked the aspect of getting to know how other countries incorporated work into their lifestyle. Additionally, I liked knowing that we would be able to explore what sets them apart.
What did you learn about yourself?
While it may be odd, I discovered that riding bikes to get around everywhere wasn't that bad even if I couldn't read have of the street signs.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
I really loved exploring the different castles around Denmark. It was so cool to see the rich history that they displayed.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Try to have a support system back home that you can lean into when you're uncertain about things. Even though it was a 6 hour time difference I loved that fact that my friends and family validated and assured me that what I was feeling was completely normal.
How do you identify?
Student of color, First Generation College Student, Covenant Scholars, Scholarship Recipient
Could you share any experiences where your identity played a role in your time abroad?
At times I had to be extra aware that my identity didn't match those of Denmark and that they were also aware of it too.
Is there any advice you would give to other students who share your identity?
Always stand up for yourself and be your biggest advocate.
If you faced any challenges abroad, where could you turn to get the support you needed?
I especially turned to the support of my friends and family
