Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I choose to study abroad in Granda, Spain through UNC global launch because since growing up through a dual language immersion school program since I was in Kindergarten, I have always wanted to study and live abroad in a Spanish speaking country to immerse myself in the culture and language as well as use and apply all the Spanish knowledge and skills I have gained. I also choose to study abroad a second time in Sydney, Australia because I had such an amazing abroad experience in Spain and I wanted to expand and extend upon it through a separate unique abroad program so I decided to pick Australia, a country and region of the world that is so different from Europe and I was able to experience such a unique and active lifestyle surrounded around the outdoors, the ocean, and enjoying life. It was a part of the world that
What did you learn about yourself?
I really broadened my global perspective because I was really able to immerse myself in multiple different cultures and learn more about myself and the world around me.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
One of my favorite memories from Granada, Spain was hiking up the Mulhacén, the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula in the Cantabrian Mountains along the northern coast with the massive Picos de Europa Torre de Cerredo, at 2,648 m is the highest point. And then one of my favorite memories from Sydney, Australia was buying a surfboard at the beginning of abroad and going out and surfing almost every day on Bondi Beach because my student apartment housing was a black from the beach!!
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
My overall advice for a future student who is unsure of where to go abroad or is facing uncertainties while abroad is to weigh your own individual pros and cons because each abroad experience is so unique to each person and special for so many reasons, and that each abroad location is the same so look for what makes it important to you! I loved Granada, Spain because of the culture, the language, the people, and the history, and I loved Sydney, Australia because of the weather, the natural beauty, the lifestyle, and the country as a whole. Find the reasons beyond what makes your study abroad option unique to you!
