Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I'm interested in the courses offered in KCL and I wanted to study in a new environment. I've never been to UK before and I wanted to learn more about their culture.

What did you learn about yourself?
First, I took 2 courses, one about children's literature and one about international human rights law. I learned to combine information in class with local cultures and history. Second, students in my class come from different countries, I made friends with students from Europe, Asia and Africa. During my stay in London, I learned about their countries and what colleges there are like. Third, it's my first time in UK and it's quite a challenge at the beginning. I got around in London and traveled to some places like Cambridge on weekends. It's a great opportunity to learn to fit into a new environment and meet new people.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
I took a class about children's literature. During our discussion about Peter Pan, we went to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. We compared the map of Wonderland from Barrie's book The Little White Bird with the real landscape. It's really impressive to connect stories to reality and for children who read the book, Kensington Gardens will be their dreamland coming true.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
When I first arrive, I got some help from student advising from Kings and from my advisor in UNC Study Abroad office. It's really helpful to ask for their advice in academics. About living in London, I got help from my RA and offices in my dorm. They gave me traveling advice and even some recommendations on grocery stores and restaurants nearby. They are really beneficial for you to get familiar with a new environment.
