Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I have always been intrigued by differing cultures and have a really strong desire to soak up new perspectives in the world. I chose my program for their excellence in environmental work and to gain a new way of looking at sustainability outside of the US.
What did you learn about yourself?
I actually found interests in even more sectors of environmental work and I learned that I am more adventurous than I thought. This was truly the best experience of my life where I found my independence.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
I loved going on field trips with my professors for hands-on learning and getting behind the scenes tours for different environmental programs, ex: waste to energy plants, insect farming, glacial preservations, and sustainable infrastructure.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
I recommend putting yourself out there in group settings and getting outside of your comfort zone because you will learn more about yourself and others by being bold and using your opportunity to the fullest. I also recommend finding places where you feel most comfortable so that you have somewhere to find solace on tougher days. Finally, a semester feels very long when you're somewhere new, don't overpack but definitely bring a piece of home for comfort, you'll be thankful when the excitement ebbs.
