About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Pre-business
Program: University of Granada (Centro de Lenguas Modernas)
Location: Granada, Spain
Email: valeval@ad.unc.edu
Term: Fall 2021

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
Through Carolina Global Launch, it was a requirement to attend the University of Granada to enter UNC. Regardless, I choose to go because I knew going to Spain would be an amazing opportunity to practice my Spanish and travel to other countries and cities nearby.

What did you learn about yourself?
I have always been an independent person, but through this I realized that I have also become more self-aware and open-minded. Each city and country has their own customs and by being open-minded I was able to appreciate the unique differences instead of spending my time complaining at any slight discomfort.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
In Granada there are various spots where people can look out on the city and have a holistic view of the most impressionable fortress there: The Alhambra. My favorite memory with my API program was hiking up to the San Miguel Alto Mirador (look-out) and sitting down to have a picnic and watch the sunset while looking at the breathtaking view.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Go. Studying abroad is not forever, so make the most of your time there. Take advantage of any opportunity you have to travel, there is not better way to learn than from experience.
