About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Economics and MEJO, History minor
Program: Lorenzo De' Medici
Location: Florence, Italy
Email: jpkurtz@unc.edu
Term: Summer 2024

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose this program because I knew I wanted to study abroad in Italy. I was shown this program by my advisor and I decided to go through with it because it was an easy process with a lot of different classes. Many other UNC students have done this program so a lot of classes were able to be transferred back to UNC for credit.

What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I want to explore more of the world. I also learned that solo traveling isn't as scary as I thought!

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
Our school didn't have any Friday classes and this one particular weekend, we didn't have Thursday classes due to midterms. With this I was able to easily travel and explore Paris and London with a few of my friends. It was something I didn't plan on doing prior to my program start date!

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Find a good group of people in your program and stick with them. It can be daunting to be in this new place by yourself so its important to find a group of people experiencing the same thing!

How do you identify?
