About My Study Abroad Program

Program: Exchange at the University of Copenhagen
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Email: kholte@unc.edu
Term: Spring 2024
Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I chose my program because I liked how I could take classes about Danish culture and could take classes with Danish students and other international students. It was a very immersive program. I also chose this program because I am part Scandinavian and wanted to learn more about Danish culture and lifestyle.
What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I am more outgoing than I thought I was. Moving to a new country and not knowing anyone can be scary and intimidating, but there were so many other people in my same position and all it took to become friends was to be outgoing and start up a conversation with someone.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
One of my favorite memories from my program was the pre-semester course that was offered for exchange students. The course took place a month before the semester started and it was a great way to meet other exchange students from around the world and have an introduction to Danish culture and language. I met so many good friends through the course and we would hang out all the time throughout the rest of the semester and into the summer.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Don't be afraid to reach out to people within your program and mentors who are there to help.
