Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I always knew I wanted to study abroad as part of my Carolina experience. It was one of the main things that drew me to Carolina. I really enjoy traveling and getting to experience other cultures. I was supposed to study abroad in Scotland in the Summer of 2020, but it was canceled due to COVID-19. Ione again applied to go to Scotland in the Summer of 202, but it was once again canceled due to COVID-19. My advisor told me about the program in Copenhagen and on a whim I decided to go. I read more about Copenhagen and was excited to experience one of the ‘happiest’ and safest cities in the world.
What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that amazing things happen when you embrace your curiousity and put yourself in an unknown environment. I am excited to continue to pursue my love of travel and curiosity by hopefully moving abroad after I graduate.
What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
I have so many amazing memories from my time abroad, but one that sticks out is from when I was on a class study tour in northern Denmark. We went mountain biking and then had a Rosé wine tasting at the top with the most amazing view of the North Sea. Later my class went down to the beach and played cards as we watched the most amazing sunset I’ve ever seen.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
You’re with a cohort of students who are facing the same uncertainties and challenges as you. Building relationships with these people can help you understand and work through your own uncertainties.
