About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: double major: political science and advertising and public relations- minor: spanish for the professions
Program: UNC Summer in Sevilla
Location: Sevilla, Spain
Email: amemrich@live.unc.edu
Term: Summer 2019

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I wanted to refine my Spanish speaking skills in Spain because I wanted to experience the country as well as travel throughout Europe.

What did you learn about yourself?
I am actually awful at Spanish but very good at navigating airports.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
Making friends and experiencing new cultures and countries together- unforgettable memories!!!!

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Pack less (especially if you are a girl and love to shop like me), travel as much as you can throughout your host country and to other countries (if possible).

Would you do it again?
100000000% YES

How did your study abroad experience prepare you for your future career?
I refined my Spanish skills, which I hope to use in my career one day.

Could you share any experiences where your identity played a role in your time abroad?
I am blonde and blue-eyed. I do not look Spanish and Spaniards definitely knew that. I often got mistaken for German or Dutch.

Is there any advice you would give to other students who share your identity?
Be careful on the streets/using public transportation because people will try to take advantage of you.

If you faced any challenges abroad, where could you turn to get the support you needed?
my friends on my trip or the staff at CINECU
