About My Study Abroad Program

Major/Minor: Major: Sustainability/ Minor: Urban Planning
Program: University of Copenhagen Exchange
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Email: mollyea@Live.unc.edu
Term: Spring 2019

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you select your program?
I did a short summer program in Tanzania after my freshman year and caught the travel bug. Copenhagen was perfect for a full semester because the city is progressive in planning and sustainability, and the exchange program would allow me to immerse myself into the community.

What did you learn about yourself?
I learned how independent I can be, and that I do adventurous, amazing things all by myself. Being away from home also gave me a greater appreciation for everything I love about North Carolina.

What is one of your favorite memories from your program?
Volunteering at Studenterhuset, a non-profit cafe and bar that's by the students, for the students.

What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Studying abroad can be really fun and a great learning experience, but you're still a student and you will settle into a routine. Some days will be boring or downright bad, just like any semester (and that's alright).

Would you do it again?
Yes

How were your classes abroad different than if you would have taken them at UNC?
For classes at UCPH, you just show up to lecture and take your exam at the end of the semester. There's no homework assignments or recitations, and classes meet less frequently than UNC classes. It allows for flexibility in your schedule, but there's a lot more pressure to do well on your final because it's the only thing you get graded on.

How do you identify?
