Job Description
The UNC Study Abroad Office seeks applications for a new Peer Advisor who will also serve as the Study Abroad Peer Ambassadors (SAPA) Vice President/Treasurer. Peer Advisors are study abroad alumni of all UNC program types. They provide greet, assist, and provide preliminary advising to students, faculty, parents, and visitors to the Study Abroad Office; respond to inquiries via telephone and email, assist with special SAO projects as assigned, and promote study abroad opportunities across campus. Peer Advisors may also be assigned to specific projects such as coordinating our social media and website work, facilitating certain student workshops, hosting, and assisting with the scholarship application process. In addition, the Peer Advisors are encouraged to initiate new projects that help promote study abroad and improve services to our students.
Responsibilities will include:
- Serve as a representative of the Study Abroad Office to faculty, staff, parents, prospective students, senior administration, and others, via in-person or online advising, telephone, or email.
- Assist the SAO outreach activities and events—including tabling events, satellite advising, classroom presentations, evening panels, workshops, and information meetings.
- Discuss study abroad programs with interested students.
- Independently research program requirements and deadlines in order to stay current with changing information.
- Perform general front desk and general office duties (including office organization, supply checks, etc.)
- Provide planning and logistical support for study abroad events. Assist with promotion.
- Meet weekly with supervisor to discuss priorities for the week and progress towards ongoing projects.
- Conduct Study Abroad 101 sessions.
- Assist with recruitment and training for new study abroad peer ambassadors.
- Maintain an up-to-date roster and keep members informed of upcoming events.
- Schedule and co-lead SAPA general body meetings.
- Make reservations in 25Live for SAPA events.
- Maintain the bank account for SAPA and ensure funds are spent appropriately.
- Coordinate with other SAPA exec members to achieve organization goals.
- Maintain Instagram account including SAPA takeover schedules and generating and sharing content related to advising and events. Experience creating reels a plus.
- Generate content for website as assigned. Publish student spotlight surveys.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
