All students are expected to watch the following webinars in preparation for their program. Upon completion, login to your study abroad application to verify that you have reviewed this information. Please contact your study abroad advisor if you have questions about any of the information covered.

General Pre-Departure Orientation

This will be updated following the mandatory general session. To review the information that’s covered, you’ll be able to replay the general session that provides a comprehensive overview for students studying abroad.

Earning Credit Abroad

Check out this session for an in-depth look at the credit transfer process, including using the Study Abroad Student Credit Portal. Our credit team will share some tips to help you on the path to earn the credit that you need! Note: the item in your study abroad application that includes the credit transfer details and the link to the student credit portal is now titled, “Link to Credit Portal and Steps for Transferring Credit”. This video references the Making Connections curriculum and students on the new IDEAS curriculum should keep in mind that their gen eds are different.

Sustainable Travel Panel

The Office of Ethics and Policy hosts a panel on sustainable travel with Josephine Piplits, CEO of TripDoodler, Mike Piehler, Chief Sustainability Officer and Director of UNC’s Institute for the Environment, and Tom Rhodes, Environmental Specialist for the NC GreenTravel Initiative – NC Department of Environmental Quality. Explore different perspectives on how to be green when traveling.

Ball Out on a Budget

Learn tips and strategies for maximizing your budget while studying abroad. This session will include notes on building a budget, using cash vs. cards, student discounts, and useful apps.

Gender & Sexuality Abroad

In this session, students can learn more about how their LGBTQ+ identity can inform their time abroad. This session will cover topics such as coming out, assumptions about gender and sexuality abroad, and navigating international LGBTQ+ spaces.
