Go to the program brochure page http://studyabroad.unc.edu/programs.cfm?pk=1918 There you will find an "Apply" button.

Clicking on this button will take you to your own Application Instruction and Status Page for that program, where you will find all of the materials you need to complete the application process.

There will be two application cycles per year (in mid February and late September) for the joint degree program. You may apply anytime between your second semester Freshman year and second semester Junior year.

You must apply at least one semester prior to your planned study at NUS. However, unlike regular study abroad programs, you may apply more than one semester prior to your planned time of study at NUS if you so choose.

Approval by the Director of Undergraduate Studies of the Department you wish to major in; Amy Dye, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Curricula in Academic Advising; and Kathryn Goforth, Associate Director for Advising in the Study Abroad Office are required to apply for the joint degree. Given the complexities of the joint degree, it is important you meet with all three before you apply in order to review the requirements and procedures of the program and to ensure that you meet the requirements and can select the courses you need to complete the program on time in your four-year undergraduate career.

The contact person in each department is as follows:

  • Economics: John Stewart
  • English Literature: Jane Thrailkill
  • Geography: Wendy Wolford
  • History: Miles Fletcher
  • Political Science: Stuart Macdonald

If after being accepted to the joint degree major, you decide to withdraw from the program and switch to a different UNC major; you must inform the study abroad office in writing whether it is before, during, or after your study at NUS.
