"While I traveled to Southeast Asia to
explore other cultures, the greatest thing I took away from this
experience is what I learned about myself. It was an absolutely
amazing experience, one I feel necessary to understanding your identity
and your place in the world."
Hallie Lipsey, 2007 Participant
Now that you are beginning your undergraduate career, you may be
wondering, "How can I make the most of my time in Chapel Hill?"
If you want the best education Carolina has to offer, we believe
that you should not spend all your time in Chapel Hill. Explore
the world. Study abroad.
Imagine, next summer you could be studying in Singapore and Bangkok,
two of the world’s most dynamic cities, where you can learn
firsthand about the cultural and social forces shaping modern Asia.
Join a UNC faculty member and a group of your fellow Tar Heels on
an innovative eight-week academic program. The first four weeks
will be based at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The
second half of the program will be at Mahidol University in Bangkok,
Thailand. Excursions to Malaysia and other sites are also included.
The Carolina Southeast Asia Summer (SEAS) Program is made possible
through a generous gift by Alston Gardner ('77) and Barbara Lee
('88) that will reward each of the 25 participants with a full scholarship
covering all program costs.
"The Southeast Asia Summer Program will give Carolina students
a global context for the study of any subject - history, political
science, literature, even the traditional sciences. The goal is
to open minds to a world beyond the borders of North Carolina so
that students will better understand the advantages we enjoy and
the challenges we face." |
